Members Selected for the Principal Selection Advisory Committee
Thank you to Elaine Pirozzi, Andrea McCabe and Willa Morris - Janney parents who will serve on the Principal Selection Advisory Committee. According to DCPS guidelines, Dan Charles, Karen Kalat and Sczerina Perot - the LSRT and PTA chairs - will also serve on the Committee. The PTA must also choose a community member who is not a Janney parent to serve on the committee. Suggestions of potential candidates may be sent to Karen Kalat.
The full Committee will include Janney staff, community members, and Janney parents. The Principal Selection Advisory Committee will review candidates that are pre-screened as qualified by DCPS and will make a hiring recommendation to Chancellor Rhee. We expect to have a decision by mid-summer.

Congratualtions to the New School Improvement Team Members
Thanks and congratulations go out to all of the civic minded parents who put themsleves in the running for the 3 open SIT positions. Without parents like you, this school would not be what it is. The three new SIT members who will be serving for the next two years are: Allison Feeney, Cheryl Ohlson and Jane Varner Malhotra.

Please sign the petition requesting Urgent Action on Janney Modernization by clicking here. Janney Elementary School delivers excellent schooling, but we desperately need a better school facility. This petition to the Mayor, Council and DCPS leaders urges action now to move Janney to the first phase of school modernizations and expansions.
Janney School/Tenley Library Development
The SIT finds all three development proposals "unacceptable."
Three proposals for the development of the Tenley-Friendship Library/Janney Elementary site have been submitted. In its formal comments to the Mayor, the School Improvement Team (SIT) stated that all three proposals "claim such large areas of the school’s scarce land that they would permanently damage the ability of school to carry out its mission." The SIT expressed the hope that the District would reverse course and include the library in a mixed-use development. Read the full letter here.
