Norah Lycknell (Principal)
Education
Ms. Lycknell holds a Master's of Science in Education Administration from Trinity University in Washington DC, a Master's in the Art of Teaching (MAT) from American University and a BA from Northwestern University. She is certified as a
DC teacher for 1-6th grade and a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist.
Work History
Ms. Lycknell comes to Janney from the Eliot-Hine Middle School in Washington, DC where she served as the
Assistant Principal/New Leaders for New Schools Resident Principal. Her achievements included fostering professional development and quality instruction in line with the
District’s Professional Performance Evaluation Process;
raising student achievement over 20%; and assembling Professional Learning Communities to plan quality units and lessons around
clear expectations about what students should know and be able to do.
Ms. Lycknell has taught at the Myrtilla Miner Elementary School in Washington DC, the
Fletcher Johnson Education Center in Washington, DC and the
YES Youngdo English School. Through her work at these schools she has gained experience in curriculum development, the development of student success monitoring programs, parent-teacher relations, mentoring programs, facilitation of individualized interventions and enrichment opportunities, and school facilities management.
