Counselor's Corner
Happy New
Year and best wishes for a productive, healthy 2008!
Healthy
Start to 2008
It's
important that students have breakfast at home or at Janney before starting
their academic day. Breakfast at Janney is served from 8:10-8:30 a.m. for any
students who need breakfast. If students arrive later than 8:30 a.m., they can
get breakfast, but they may be late for the beginning of their school day.
A Good Study Place
Having a
good study space is important for good studying. Research shows that students
study best in a quiet environment free of interruptions and distractions. A
study place should be consistent, some place with a desk or table and a
comfortable chair, and should have all study materials easily accessible
(books, pencils, pens, rulers, and so forth). The study space should have
enough light and be a comfortable temperature, not too hot so you become sleepy
or too cold where your thinking may slow down.
Attendance
Getting
back into the school routine can be a challenge after the winter break, but it
is important to remember that classes start at 8:45 a.m., and students are
expected to be in the classroom at that time. Students arriving after 8:55 a.m.
are marked tardy, and they have already missed the warm up sessions and class
meetings with their classmates. Please make sure your child arrives at school
on time.
Career Day
Do you,
another family member, friend, or neighbor have an interesting job you would
like to talk about at our annual Career Day? It is a wonderful way to open up
the world of work for our students. Please consider coming to Career Day on
Friday morning, February 15th. If you are
interested or know someone who is interested, please contact Mrs. Leventhal at
(202) 282-1243 or email her at maureen.leventhal@dc.gov.
