Principal's Letter

As this year comes to an end, let us reflect on our children's accomplishments. They are learning new things everyday that spark their interests and increase their social and academic development. This month has been filled with activities that display our student's creativity and growth.

I hope everyone had an opportunity to attend the winter fair. It was wonderful to see the student participation in this event. Our children enjoyed selling their goods in the spirit of entrepreneurialism. Thank you to Ms. Miller for organizing this event.

The fall concert was awesome! I can remember hearing the band and chorus rehearse at the beginning of the school year. It is amazing to see how much they have progressed over the last few months. The music selections were beautiful. I am looking forward to the next performance.

Last Friday, I escorted members of our band to St. Columba's to perform a concert for the homeless. The students performed several musical selections and were loved by all. Our children were able to touch the lives of people in need through music. There were several comments from the audience and members of St. Columba's, expressing gratitude and appreciation of our students and their act of kindness.

Our basketball team is gearing up for a great season! They are preparing for their first game. Ms. Green and Mr. Williams are working hard to get our boys and girls teams ready. Please support our basketball program by attending games and cheering them on throughout the season.

We are continuing to teach and encourage respect in our school. We have recently focused on teaching students to speak respectfully about each other and adults. Please assist us at home by discussing the power of words and appropriate ways to talk about peers and adults. Thank you for your support.

Well, this is our last newsletter for the year. Wow! How time flies! I wish you all a happy holiday and a wonderful new year! Take care and we'll see you in 2009!

Sincerely,
A Note from Your PTA Co-Presidents

You may have noticed that the PTA did not have a general meeting in December. The schedule for general PTA meetings has changed from past years. In past years the PTA had regular monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. Last year the PTA voted to change the bylaws to state there would be "quarterly meetings" as opposed to monthly meetings.

The PTA general meetings for the remainder of this school year will be:
Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 7:30 in the Multipurpose Room
Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 7:30 in the Multipurpose Room
Tuesday May 12, 2009, at 7:30 in the Multipurpose Room
Tuesday June 9, 2009, at 7:30 in the Multipurpose Room

At each general meeting the PTA presents reports from the Principal, the PTA Treasurers, and the PTA Presidents. We review any old business and bring up new business. Parent participation is welcome and encouraged. Please email us or call us in advance about a topic you would like to address. Or simply come to a general meeting and bring up the topic yourself.

We hope to see you at a general meeting or hear from you about topics you would like to see addressed by the Janney PTA. In the meantime, we hope you have a safe and happy holiday.

LOST AND FOUND TO BE EMPTIED FRIDAY at 3:15 SHARP

All unclaimed items in the Lost and Found will be donated to local charities FRIDAY at 3:15pm SHARP. Please stop by BEFORE then to check for items belonging to your children.

Note that if you are missing something that is not in our Lost & Found, you might try checking at St. Ann's school. Sometimes things belonging to Janney students end up in their Lost & Found because we share a playground.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

The Lost and Found Committee
Sally Juram [philsal@verizon.net], Lisa Jacobson, Jennie Bonney, Melissa Modell and Ms. Leventhal (School Counselor)

Crossing cartoonSafety Patrol Tip of the Week
