Principal's Letter
Dear Janney Families,
I had the pleasure of attending the Notebuster's concert last Monday night and Mrs. Draper attended the chorus concert last Thursday night. The musical selections brought back memories. Our children's melodious singing filled the auditorium with truly lovely sounds. They were awesome! Thank you to Mr. Hansen and Ms. Bellissimo for their hard work.
We have two members of our Janney staff who will be moving to Deal. Ms. Clements, 5th grade teacher, and Ms. Brown, Librarian. We wish them well at Deal. We know they will be great additions at the middle school and familiar faces for our alumni. We will miss them!
We will have field day this week: Wednesday for Pre-K-1; Thursday for grades 2-4; Friday for grades 5-6. I know our children are very excited about this week and ready for their fun-filled day.
We are beginning to receive requests for student placement next year. Our teachers are currently working on next year's class lists. We will review requests and take them into consideration when making the lists. Also, I am in the process of completing teacher placements. We have several new mandates coming down the pike regarding certification. One of those mandates is to have all teachers highly qualified to teach the grade they are teaching. This plays a role in the teacher placements. I am hopeful that this process will be completed over the next two weeks.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,

Volunteers Needed to Help Welcome New Janney Families!
We are currently recruiting current and returning Janney families to "adopt" students who will be new to Janney for the 2009-10 school year. It is a minimal time commitment, but can make the transition to a new school easier and happier for new kids and their parents. If you are interested, please contact Carola McGiffert at cmcgiffert@hotmail.com.

Box Top Update: The Results Are In!
The Janney PTA received a record breaking $833 from our Box
Tops efforts this year. We collected $416.50 worth of Box Tops this year
from the Janney community and local realtor, Susan Jaquet gave us another
$416.50 as a matching donation. Thanks so much to everyone who
contributed this year. Keep clipping those Box Tops!

Wondering What's Going on at Webb-Wheatley Elementary Where Scott Cartland is Now Principal?
Janney parent, Dan Charles, has been visiting Webb-Wheatley Elementary through the year and is doing a four-part series about it for WAMU-FM. The first piece aired last Friday on the station's local news show, Metro Connection, and he'll do a new one each week for the next three weeks. You can hear the stories online via podcast (subscribe through the WAMU/Metro Connection website.) Or you can also download an audio file of the first story (with better sound quality) by clicking on this link: http://danielcharles.us/webb-wheatley1.mp3.

Your PTA Volunteers at Work
While we've been highlighting all the great things Janney's PTA pays for, Janney's PTA is well-funded in another way too: its parent volunteers. There are more than 40 PTA committees, ranging (alphabetically) from Advertising to Yearbook, and all of them help make Janney the great school that it is. If you are looking for a way to get more involved, there is definitely a PTA committee that could use your time and special talents.

Contributing to the E-Newsletter
Submissions to the PTA newsletter may be emailed to Janneynewsletter@yahoo.com.
The deadline for submissions is Thursday at 3:15 pm. Because the newsletter is reviewed by several individuals before distribution, we must adhere to this deadline in order to get the newsletter to you every week on time.
If a notice should be run for more than one week, please indicate the dates the notice should be run, or resubmit the notice by the Thursday deadline for each week.
Please make every effort to submit your notices by email for the electronic newsletter. Include all text in the body of your email (rather than as an attachment). Small jpeg thumbnails may be attached and can be included in the newsletter. All links or email addresses will be made active (clickable).
Prepared fliers should be turned into the school office by COB Monday for inclusion in the regular Take Home Tuesday envelope.
We will run notices about community or other non-Janney events of interest to elementary school children as space permits. It is the PTA's policy not to carry for-profit advertisements or classifieds. Thank you for your cooperation.
