A Note from the PTA Co-Presidents
Dear Janney Families, The auction committee has been working hard all year to make this year's auction a really fun event for the community and profitable evening for Janney! The auction is our main fundraiser of the year, so please save the date, March 3rd! There will be a record number auction items available to bid on, such as fabulous vacation destinations, one-of-a-kind class room creations, and popular electronics. Look in your child's Take Home Tuesday for more auction information! Join us for our next PTA meeting on February 15th, "The State of Janney School Community". If you have not attended any PTA meeting before, this is the one to attend to have all your questions answered: how the Janney PTA surplus will be spent, Janney's 2012-13 budget, and future enrollment trends at Janney. Babysitting will be provided. Interested in being a new officer on the PTA next year? Want to be part of the PTA nomination committee? Let us know if interested, we are putting together that committee now. Finally, a word of caution, there has been an increase in theft and burglaries in the area. Please do not leave your purse or valuables in your car at drop off or pick up. Even though this is a high traffic area, a suspect can break into a your car and steal your property in a matter of seconds. Also, please be aware of your surroundings and keep your electronic devises hidden, suspects are targeting unsuspecting people wearing headphones, they want your electronics.

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run Registration is now OPEN! Girls on the RunŽ is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Girls on the RunŽ combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education and lots of FUN! How: Go to www.janneyschool.org or find a coach for a paper copy. All forms are due back bye March 1st with payment attached. When: Season begins March 5th and ends with the 5k on June 3rd at American University. Time: Monday's from 3:30-4:45/ Friday from 7:30am- 8:30am Exta: If we have more than 25 girls this semester, we will hold a lottery . | Janney Used Book Sale
Mark your calendars for March 10!
Start your spring cleaning early by clearing out your old books (and making space for some new ones) to get ready for the Janney Used Book Sale , set for Saturday, March 10!
We will collect items starting February 13 until March 9 at Janney. We are looking for the following in good to excellent condition:
* Children's books (soft and hard cover)
* Adult soft and hard cover fiction
* Adult soft and hard cover non-fiction
* CDs, DVDs and computer games in case and in working condition
Please try to sort your donations into these categories, if possible.
We do not need: - Yellowed or damaged books - Magazines - Outdated books travel guides/books published before 2007
- DVDs or CDs without their original cases and/or not in working condition
If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Jenny Craig.

Contributing to the E-Newsletter
All submissions to the PTA newsletter should be emailed to:
janneynewsletter@yahoo.com
The deadline for submissions is Friday at 3:15 pm, for publication the following Tuesday. Because the newsletter is reviewed by several individuals before distribution, we must adhere to this deadline.
Material in the newsletter must be:
1) For the benefit of Janney students; 2) Related to activities or programs that take place on Janney school grounds, or for specific Janney-sponsored events or programs; 3) From, and for, not-for-profit organizations (unless #1 and #2 above are satisfied, and approved by both PTA presidents); and 4) Submitted by an official representative of the organization or program referenced.
Inclusion in the newsletter is at the discretion of the newsletter editors, the PTA presidents, and the principal.
Please include all text in the body of the email (rather than as an attachment). Small jpeg thumbnails may be attached and can be included in the newsletter.
All links or email addresses will be made active (clickable).
If you wish to run a notice for more than one week, please indicate the dates when the notice should run, or resubmit the notice by the Friday deadline for each week.
Please note there is no longer a box in the Janney office where hard-copy newsletter submissions can be turned in. Prepared fliers to be included in the Take Home Tuesday envelope should be turned into the school office by COB Monday.
