School Improvement Team (SIT)
Welcome to the NEW Janney Facility. Our new campus will include over 40,000 square feet of new interior space that will house new classrooms, an art room, science lab, music room, media center, library, gym and underground parking for teachers and staff. Our grounds will house a new turf field, multiple playground areas appropriate for different ages, basketball courts and free space to play and explore. The drawing above does not show final landscaping, but gives an idea of the overall look our new campus will have. Construction and moderization are scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the Fall 2011 semester. For more information, please see detailed plans and documents posted below under Resources. WHAT IS THE JANNEY SIT? DCPS policy requires that a School Improvement Team (SIT) be established to participate in the development of the education specification and schematic design for the school. The Janney SIT is a working group made up of Janney staff, parents, our Principal and community representatives. This group has been following the development of modernization and addition plans for the school and meets regualrly with representatives from the Mayor's Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) that oversees all school facility expansion projects, the Architects, Deveroux and Purnell, and Winmar-Dustin Construction representatives working on the Janney project. The SIT will exist through the end of construction and be available to receive updates, consult on issues that arise during construction, and disseminate information to the community. To read a full description of the SIT and its responsibilities, click here. SCHOOL OPERATION DURING CONSTRUCTION The modernization of the existing Janney building and the new addition is scheduled for completion on August 19th, in time for the start of the 2011-12 school year. Landscaping and outdoor work may continue into September. Janney administrative offices will be located at Deal Middle School from June-August 19, 2011. The Janney SIT has compiled an extensive list of frequently asked questions on the construction and modernization process. To read them, click here. Comments on this process should be sent to the Principal, Norah Lycknell, who will share them with the SIT. UNDERGROUND PARKING The new Janney facility will include 50 underground parking spaces for school staff.
